Before we launch into the new school year, it’s time to celebrate our dedicated board members. We’re grateful for your hard work, guidance, and support throughout the year. While all directors bring something special to the table, there are three who have gone above and beyond, serving as board members for over nine years! Two of these three long-term members are moving on to other pursuits, but we know they’ll continue to be a part of the Team Read Community.
Seana Hayden has become known as our “book fairy.” By stewarding relationships with independent bookstores and her employer, Penguin Random House, Seana facilitated the donation of thousands of books over her tenure. Seana has been an active member of the fundraising committee, serving as co-chair for several years. Her energy and optimism are contagious and leave a lasting impact. We’re very fortunate that Seana plans to remain in her committee role after exiting the board. Thank you Seana!
Matt Hrdlicka, a true finance wizard, has used his powers for good and helped change Team Read for the better. From pioneering investment strategies to taking a deep dive into employee benefits, he’s set Team Read up for success in more ways than one. In addition to his financial acumen, Matt has thoughtfully welcomed in many new Team Read friends and supporters. As board president, he led the executive director search process and supported the creation of our new strategic plan. While we know it’s just goodbye for now, we’ll miss regularly seeing Matt, enjoying his sense of humor, and his kind and grounding presence.
Donna Lou is a Team Read legend. In her long and continuing tenure as a board member, she has co-chaired the fundraising committee, taken a lead on building a matching funds pool for our events, and inspired us all with her determination and commitment. Donna cares so deeply about the students in our program, and it shows in the way she makes connections with donors, partner organizations, and other supporters. We’re incredibly grateful that Donna will continue to serve on our board!
We also wish a fond farewell to Jenn Wong and Aniket Dave, whose careers have taken them away from the Seattle area. Thank you both for your hard work!
