How we know  it works

Evaluating our impact and continuously improving our program are imperatives built into Team Read’s organizational DNA. Since 1998, we’ve hired independent evaluators to help us design and implement annual program reviews.

28

years of annual reviews

1998 – 2026

Two questions, asked every year

Did our second and third graders grow as readers? And did our teen coaches benefit? Everything we collect answers one of the two.

District academic reading assessment data

The same assessments schools already use tell us how far each second and third grader moved over the year.

Feedback from key program stakeholders

Reading coaches, referring teachers, principals, and parents of both readers and coaches tell us how kids feel about reading, not just how they score.

Surveys and focus groups

Help measure how our teen reading coaches have benefited: as readers, as leaders, and as first-time employees.

Every seat at the table

A reading session has more than two people invested in it. Our evaluators ask all of them.

01

Reading coaches

Teens on what they gained and what they’d change.

02

Referring teachers

The educators who recommend each reader.

03

Principals

Whether the program fits their school.

03

Parents of readers and coaches

What changed at home, for both kids.
