This month, Team Read is bringing together more than 350 student readers and 175 teen reading coaches at 15 virtual tutoring sites across Seattle and Highline.
“I am excited for Team Read this fall because we get to support students and families during a difficult time,” said teen coach and site assistant Abby. “Many families are having trouble transitioning into online learning and Team Read will be there to make sure students do not get left behind in reading.”
Each teen will work with two students, meeting twice per week online.
Teens are required to attend six hours of training before they start working as a reading coach in the program. In training, coaches learn job basics, professionalism, program curriculum, coaching tips and how to develop impactful relationships with their students.
Elementary students will be assigned to twice-weekly tutoring sessions with their teen coaches. Sessions will run 45 minutes online, with supervision by site coordinators who monitor and support reading pairs .
Team Read is also holding Open House events for coach parents and elementary reader families. If you would like to learn more about our program through an Open House event, or a virtual site visit, please contact us.
