Happy New Year and a big welcome back to our readers and coaches! We’re jumping right in with our January theme, Winter Wonderland. This month’s focus is on comprehension, which is an important cornerstone of literacy. As students read, coaches will ask questions to help the readers understand character motivation, discover main ideas, and make connections between the text and the world around them. By answering these questions, students can color in snowballs to make a snow friend! Students who complete the exercise will win a trip to the treasure chest, where they can choose a bookmark, sticker, or small toy to celebrate their success.

In addition to the focus on comprehension, readers and coaches will continue to work on phonics packets and word games, as well as incorporating scholar words such as responsibility, motivate, and gratitude. As we get close to the end of the first semester, we’re seeing how much progress our readers have made already. Thank you to our coaches for all their hard work, and we’re excited to see what you all accomplish in 2025!
