Happy November! This month, as readers and coaches settle into a new year of Team Read, they’ll be using the theme of fall leaves as they reflect on what they learn each session.

This is a month for readers and coaches to get into the routine of the Team Read program; the first week will have a modified schedule for coaches and readers to become acquainted with each other and participate in some activities to introduce themselves.

Some of the things our coaches will be focusing on this month include:
● Using the phonological and sight word games with their readers.
● Utilize the phonics assessment and packets.
● Practice trying to move their reader up a level at the end of the month!

Our Powerful Pairs will also build social-emotional skills by using a “mood-meter” to check in about how they’re feeling that day. Coaches are skilled at using a reader’s mood and emotions to tailor the session. If a reader is feeling extra excited and energetic, a coach might suggest some books to match that mood. If a reader is having a hard day or facing a specific challenge, coaches may look for books that grapple with a similar feeling. Coaches also use a weekly “scholar word” to open up conversations around emotions. November’s scholar words include excited, unexpected, and nervous.

Of course, Team Read is much more fun when goals are set and there are prizes to be won! At the end of each session readers will reflect on something new they learned that day and color a fall leaf as a reward. The goal is to finish the sheet by the end of the month and earn a trip to the prize box!
