We are thrilled to announce Team Read will be partnering with Renton School District beginning this fall to provide one:one reading tutoring support for 2nd and 3rd grade students at Campbell Hill Elementary School. The Renton Team Read program will launch in late November, aiming to serve 10-15 students. Sponsored by a special career grant, teen reading coaches will be recruited from the Renton Teacher Academy and Aspiring Educators Club for the 2021-22 school year, providing them with the opportunity to explore their interest in a career in education.
“Campbell Hill is excited to partner with Team Read! A student’s ability to decode and comprehend texts is essential to them accessing learning, especially as they advance through education. So often, those outside of education miss the most meaningful resource in supporting student learning – people. Team Read creates an opportunity for identified students to get additional attention, instruction, and practice to accelerate loss of learning at an individual level. Individualized instruction is always valuable, but is even more so after students’ learning experiences with at-home learning the past year and a half.” —Na’Ceshia Holmes, Campbell Hill Elementary Principal
We’d like to thank Cherryl Jackson-Williams, Family & Community Engagement Coordinator, for connecting Team Read with Renton School District two years ago. And also Ebony Pattenaude, Director of Renton Innovation Zone (RIZ) Partnerships & Early Learning, who has been our point-person in Renton’s central office, coordinating many colleagues to enable our partnership.
It’s going to be a great year and we look forward to seeing even more young readers and teen coaches working together in two new districts this year (Renton and Tukwila), as well as our newest partner school in Highline, Bow Lake Elementary!
